Angel Canto, FASP Immediate Past President

  1. The President of FASP becomes Immediate Past President at the adjournment of the annual business meeting of the FASP Membership at the FASP Annual Conference. The Immediate Past President serves in this office for one year.
  2. The Immediate Past President serves as a chairperson of the Nominating and Elections Committee and chairperson of the Bylaws Committee. In addition, it is the duty of the Immediate Past President to make hotel arrangement and negotiate a contract for Summer Institute and Annual Conference to be held two years in the future.

It has come time for our annual FASP Executive Board elections! As Past President, one of my tasks is to secure an excellent slate of candidates for board positions. I’m excited to tap into all the talent and passion we have amongst our colleagues in this state! Serving FASP as President (and other positions on the board) was an incredible experience and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity. Please feel free to ask me or any other board member any questions you may have about what service on the board would look like and how you can become more involved ~ and send in those nominations!

Benefits of serving on FASP Executive Board: Be introduced and integrally involved in all of the latest issues affecting school psychology in our state, be a voice for our members, and be a key decision maker for FASP policies and procedures.

Requirements: Current FASP membership and willingness to serve the length of time designated for each open position. The FASP Executive Board typically convenes 3-4 times per year (including Summer Institute and Annual Conference). In prior years this meeting has been face-to-face but transitioned to virtual meetings during the year of COVID. Accommodations and travel are reimbursed (within reason) in accordance with established policies.

We are currently seeking nominations for the following positions and hope that you will nominate yourself or a colleague who you think would be a good fit for the position.

President-Elect: The President-elect exercises general supervision over Annual Conference, functions as the President (with support) in case of absence or incapacity, and becomes President at the close of term of office as President-Elect (typically at Annual Conference). The President then serves as Immediate Past President in the year following Presidency. All members may nominate for this position.

Regional Representative: (Listed below with their respective counties): Regional representatives are the liaison between membership of their region and Executive Board. They may organize regional workshops and are a voting member of the Executive Board. This is a 2-year position on the board, which begins at the close of term for the prior representative (typically at Annual Conference). Prior Regional Representatives are eligible to serve again. Members may nominate for the Regional Representative position for their county. Nominations are being accepted for the following regions:

  • Region 2 – Northeast: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, St Johns, Suwannee, Union, Volusia
  • Region 4 – West Central: Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk
  • Region 6 – Southeast: Broward, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, St Lucie

To Nominate: Members can self-nominate or nominate other members for positions. Nominees will be contacted individually to accept/decline the nomination. When nominating a member (or yourself), please provide: Name, Position being nominated for, County, and contact phone & email address. Send nominations by email to FASP Immediate Past President, Angel Canto, by Sunday March 21st at acanto@sebhfl.com.
